Slam Donahue Seize the Day on ‘Hemlock Tea’ EP
So, how about being that one kind of young person in a metropolitan area right now, eh? Trying to define who you are amidst aimless partying, aborted non-relationships, and the fear of never becoming successful is not the biggest challenge around, but it’s a challenge all the same. Enter Slam Donahue’s Hemlock Tea EP, a five song ode to youth and living in the present.
I love these songs so much that I reviewed a record for the first time in a year. (Please be gentle.) This EP sounds vital, and it’s exactly what I need in my life right now. Not to get too personal, but this has been a summer where very little has gone as expected, where I woke up every morning and wondered how things were going to get weird that day. Where I got too invested too quickly in things and it didn’t pay off. Where I dwelled too much on rejection and related vividly with both Koenig siblings. Slam Donahue have been a part of #tragicomicsummer, but they’re also helping me stay positive and deal with the fact that I can’t plan everything. I’m glad that these guys have made something that’s catchy as hell and also reflects what’s going on right now.
