When I’m on the plane with Victor, who is my best friend, and we’re going to play very far from France, we just look at each other, and we’re like, “Wow, we are playing our own music on the other side of the planet.” It’s a great opportunity to travel, thanks to music, so it’s a dream for us.

Here’s my first piece for Prefix, an interview with Pierre of Housse de Racket.  If you didn’t catch them on this North American tour, they’ll be back soon!

Can You Tell Me How To Get To SXSW?
So, you’re a musician. You’ve been working hard on songs that you’re proud of, and you’re getting attention from blogs and building your fan base. If you want to make it in the music industry, the next logical step is to make the trip to Austin, Texas for the SXSW conference, where the next big things are made. But can you afford to go?
For up-and-coming musicians, playing at SXSW is the best opportunity to showcase their talents and impress the right people in the industry. However, since performances are typically unpaid, it takes a toll on the finances of artists whose careers have yet to fully launch. For those from other countries, the additional costs of traveling and acquiring American work visas are an extra burden. However, government agencies can help musicians realize their dreams.

I know that SXSW was like 20 internet years ago, but here’s an article I wrote about how international artists get the $/€/£ to come to the US and how much $/€/£ it takes to get here.

20 years ago, when I was 14, America was the big thing. It was the country you loved and the country you wanted to go to, and you had the flag in your room and everything.
Here’s part two of my Yuksek interview for your reading plaisir.
On French artists writing in English and making it in America.

Saw Django Django’s first-ever show in the US this weekend.  If they go over half as well in Austin, they’re golden—that was the nicest crowd I’ve experienced in ages.

My favorite album of 2011, Yuksek’s Living On The Edge Of Time, is finally out in the US today.  Naturally, I’m going to tell you to check it out if you haven’t already.  This is sonically rich French electro-pop that digs in deep.  The songs come from a place of discomfort, but they resolve their own malaise with near-flawless execution.
But if you just want to dance, that’s okay, too.
Free downloads of the album’s first two singles are here and here.
